         Model 6 My Ideal Job

As far as I am concerned, the ideal job is that of a businessman. Other careers—for instance,in sports, the armed forces or teaching—all have their attractions, but I feel that the world of business is the most rewarding. Besides,I am sure that business suits my temperament.

The advantages of a business career can be summed up as follows: It gives you a chance to contribute to the welfare of society by providing goods and services, and creating wealth,it presents opportunities to travel and meet people of all walks of life, and, last but not least,it allows you to be your own boss. Moreover,an honest, hardworking businessman is well respected by society.

At the moment,I am busy preparing for my future as a businessman. I am majoring in Economics and Foreign Trade, which are essential courses for understanding how commerce works. At the same time,I am studying psychology, because a businessman must learn to deal with all kinds of people. Thirdly,I am striving to improve my English, because I wish to engage in foreign trade.

Model 7 Can Money Buy Happiness?

There are people who think that money can buy happiness. It is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, and live a life of comfort and security. And it is equally true that la

ck of money causes great distress.

However,it is a common view that “money is the root of all evil.” The pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. In some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable.

In my opinion,if we make honest and sensible use of money it can be a stepping-stone to happiness. If we earn money lawfully we can be proud of our achievement in gaining wealth. But we must also put our money to good use,so that it benefits not only ourselves but our fellow-man as well. Thus,my conclusion is that although money cannot buy happiness,it can make happiness possible if it is employed sensibly.

Model 8 The Advantages of Job Interview

It is a common practice these days for employers to interview students who wish to work for them after graduation. By means of the face-to-face interview, body sides can judge whether they suit each other. The advantages of the job interview are that it is an accurate and time-saving way of matching prospective employer and prospective employee.

For instance, the employer has the chance to explain the requirements of the plat he is offering. At the same time,he can introduce the benefits his company or work unit offers—working conditions, holidays, welfare, etc. He will also ask the interviewee about his education and qualifications, and why he has applied for that particular job.

At the same time, the interviewee has the chance to find out more details about the job he has applied for. He will try to make a favor-able impression on the interviewer, while deciding whether the job is one in which he is likely to be satisfied.

Model 9 The Two Day Weekend

The two-day weekend is a great opportunity for students to relax after the hard study of the rest of the week. They can indulge in recreations and hobbies, and meet friends. They can also do extra reading for self-improvement,for which they normally cannot find time. Some students get part-time jobs at the weekends to lighten their families financial burdens.

However, there are students who waste their time on weekends. Some play cards or other unproductive games for hours, while others waste both time and money visiting restaurants. Sometimes, they spend those two free days traveling and sightseeing, and as a result are too tired on Monday to concentrate on their studies.

The best day to spend the two-day weekend is to plan carefully so that we are both well rested and prepared to meet the new study week with confidence. We can do this by spending a few hours revising the previous week s lessons and preparing for those of the coming week. The rest of the time should be spent in healthy sporting or cultural activities.

Model 10 The Global Shortage of Fresh Water

Most people believe that the supply of fresh water on the earth is inexhaustible. City dwellers are used to having as much clean water as they want coming out of the kitchen tap. And if you go into the countryside in most places you will see a wide variety of sources of water—rivers, wells, and even glaciers. It seems that they could never be used up.

But the truth is that the world is short of fresh water. The rapid growth of the rural population, the rising demand for water by industry and the increasing rate of pollution of water sources means that there is a global threat of massive water shortages. Already in some major cities there is not enough fresh water to satisfy the daily needs of their inhabitants.

Therefore,it is an urgent task for us to find new ways to save water.First,we should be careful not to waste water. Second, scientists should be encouraged to improve methods of desalinating seawater and purifying polluted water. And third, industry must make extra efforts to reduce the use of fresh water.
