本课主要介绍了有关高等教育的情况，并重点介绍了如何提高自己的阅读技巧，如何能够更快，更好，更容易的进行阅读。学完本课后，我们应该理解课文所讲的一天可以读四本书的阅读方法，并把这一方法应用到日常的学习中去。另外还应该能用英语就学校，课程及考试方面的信息和看法进行交流，熟练地以与外国人交流对教育的看法。
本课的课文介绍了一场学习革命。作者认为只要学会了正确的读书方法，每个人每天都可以读完四本书，并掌握其中的要点，这是一种全新的读书理念。它的核心方法就是找到读书的窍门，用略读的方法找到需要找到的信息，然后再做上标记进行精读。
